UCI Housing staff and Sgt. Sloan coordinated the latest S.A.F.E.R. Event held on October 13th, 2016 at the Mesa Court Community Center. Most, if not all, of the housing Directors were present including Sharon Stead, Middle Earth Housing; Lou Gill, Mesa Court Housing; and Piya Bose, Palo Verde Housing. Even Lisa Cornish, was able to take time out of her busy day to attend. After Chief’s welcoming statements, each of our officers were asked to sit at separate tables as they ate dinner, catered by El Torito, to give them a chance to connect with the staff members. The casual and humorous atmosphere allowed everyone to instantly build rapport with one another as they learned about commonalities among each other. The surprise of the evening was a spontaneous game of Human Bingo, a classic icebreaker activity that forces everyone to move about the room. The air was soon filled with chatter and laughter as everyone learned fun facts about each other. Officer Soon was eager to finish first in the game so that he could win the grand prize - a jar of candy. We look forward to another future event hosted with a different department on campus.
