Chief Cisneros and Sergeant Sloan recognized several members of Middle Earth Housing staff on August 15, 2017 for their outstanding contributions to the UCI community. During the course of several months, these staff members observed and reported crimes in progress resulting in multiple arrests. Two of the crimes involved the suspect attempting to steal bicycles, while the third involved a physical assault. As a token of appreciation for their quick actions, each staff member was awarded a certificate of recognition and a UCIPD challenge coin which was presented in front of their colleagues and supervisors. The Chief took this opportunity to reinforce the notion that it is this type of community partnership, between the police and the community, that signifies the greatest potential in keeping our community safe. It is also the foundation on why the SAFER (Standing with Anteaters to Foster Engagement and Responsibility) program was established. The UCI Police Department commends these staff members for supporting a safe and inclusive community.
