Last night, UCI Police Department responded to multiple reports of crimes in progress on campus, and zotALERTS were immediately issued.

Robberies

At approximately 6:14 p.m. on May 23, UCI Police Department was notified of a robbery that had just occurred at the ATM machines next to the Student Center. A suspect described as a white male, approximately 25 years old, 5’9”, medium build with blond hair, and wearing a dark suit approached a UCI student and demanded money. The suspect said he had a handgun but did not show it to the student. The suspect took the money and fled the area.

Within approximately 20 minutes of the first robbery, a second robbery believed to involve the same suspect occurred at Culver Drive and University Drive. During this robbery, the suspect displayed a handgun. After the robbery, the suspect again fled the area. The suspect was taken into custody late this morning. Burglary

At approximately 7:22 p.m. on May 23, UCI Police Department received a telephone call from a professor in Biological Sciences III who stated that she just interrupted a burglary occurring in her office. The professor said that as she was entering her office, a black male, approximately 30 years old, 6’2”, 190 pounds, short black hair, wearing a black sports jacket and carrying a black bag left her office carrying several laptop computers, books and a laser pointer. The suspect fled the area. UCI Police Department is attempting to identify and locate the suspect in this burglary.

  • In emergency situations or during crimes in progress, dial 9-1-1 or use an emergency phone available on campus.
  • Immediately report all suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to the UCI Police Department at (949) 824-5223.
  • Always be alert and aware of your surroundings.
  • Ensure that all office doors and windows are locked. Do not prop open building doors.
